What To Do Right Now

  • Knocked-out tooth — hold it by the crown (not the root), rinse briefly if dirty, try to place it back in the socket or keep it in milk or in your cheek, and call us immediately; time matters.
  • Severe pain or swelling — a cold compress on the cheek can help; avoid placing aspirin directly on the gum.
  • Broken tooth — rinse with warm water and save any pieces.
  • If you have swelling that makes it hard to breathe or swallow, call 911 or go to the emergency room.
